Read Me With One Perspective Leave With Another: Valentines Day Isis Way

It is inevitable and no matter how much you want to avoid it, today is Valentines Day. Ladies and Gentleman, Niggas, And Hoes, another February 14th is upon us. I know, I know by now some of you are super excited about what the evening may bring. Anxiously wondering what gifts and surprises are in store for you, plotted by your significant other. Then there are those who shun this day with as much enthusiasm as a baby daddy with negative test results on Maury. Hey, I can’t knock you, Isis understands. Who needs a Holiday to remind the single about how single they are or who needs a holiday for me to show my lifeboo how much I love them when I do that by putting up with they bullshit everyday. I know it’s all cliche and a conspiracy by the card, chocolate and teddy bear companies to monopolize on our emotions. You won’t find me arguing with you there but I invite you to walk with me for a second. I’d like to share a perspective with you.
You see the last few weeks I’ve sat and heard two of my near and dear friends groan and complain about how valentines day was coming up and the holiday is bullshit and they didn’t have a man yada yada yada… i hate love.. yada…angry twit ..Usually I’d share some of their sentiment. After all, I myself am single and at the time of their grumbling I knew that the chances of me being with who I really wanted to spend “Hallmark Love Day” with were the same odds that the Cleveland Cavaliers have of winning an NBA championship this season. But for some odd reason I just couldn’t bring myself to hate anything about Love, this day, or anyone who is grossly in love. In fact the complete opposite happened. I found myself listening to nothing but love songs, smiling at couples holding hands and actually looking forward to ” Love Day’. This pissed me off cause I couldn’t figure out what had suddenly come over me. Then today it hit me, I figured it out. We need Valentines Day people. You ever wonder why Valentines Day is during Black History month? It’s because We need Valentines day.. not just We as people but We as in Black People. * Steps on soap box and picks fro hawk* It’s bad out here..real bad… The economy is still bad, gas prices are high, 2 out of 3 black men ages 18-25 are in prison, 72% of Black children are born to unwed mothers, people are still out of work, birds are falling out the sky, the weather is bipolar, the government is putting the bootleg man out of business, we degrade ourselves daily, and ignorant rap is all you hear on the radio #nobalance. So I guess I’m glad that despite all the bullshit, we have one day that forces the majority to conform and show a little love. We get so caught up in the couple aspect that gets forced onto us by society that we neglect the true power and real meaning that the day possess. Love is so beyond romance. Theres church love, family love, neighborly love, give a nigga a hug love, I could go on and on but I invite all of you to check out my man @realtalkthepoets track bellow and the poem at the end to see where I’m going with this. So heres to Valentines Day and if noone tells you they love you today.. remember that Isis and Snewty does .
